“Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.” – SDG 11
Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Urban Growth Across Africa
As African cities grow at an unprecedented pace often without adequate planning; basic service delivery systems are increasingly overwhelmed. Overcrowded schools, strained health facilities, informal housing, and limited access to clean water and sanitation are now common challenges in rapidly urbanizing areas. These conditions not only compromise the quality of life but also widen inequalities and undermine sustainable development.
At ECANAT Group Company Ltd, we respond to these realities with practical, research-driven solutions. Our team brings first-hand experience from leading Uganda’s national studies on Urbanization, Service Delivery, and harnessing the Demographic Dividend, a groundbreaking effort that highlighted how coordinated planning and inclusive governance can transform cities into engines of growth and opportunity. We work with local and national authorities to develop data-informed urban strategies that align land use, infrastructure, and population needs ensuring that service delivery keeps pace with urban growth.
Our technical team served as consultants in the National Study on Urbanization, Service Delivery, and Harnessing the Demographic Dividend, commissioned by the National Population Council. This landmark study covered six major cities—Kampala, Gulu, Arua, Jinja, Fort Portal, and Masaka—and generated critical insights into the relationship between urbanization and service delivery. The study involved over 936 interviews, in-depth field assessments, and stakeholder engagement with city leaders, health and education institutions, market vendors, youth, and policymakers. Its findings informed high-level national policy discussions around urban planning, infrastructure development, and demographic transition strategies.
ECANAT delivers practical, research-based urban solutions. We conduct assessments of service delivery in in health, education, housing, and WASH, and facilitate inclusive stakeholder engagement. Our services also include infrastructure audits and policy advisory to help cities plan better and deliver more effectively.
