Dr. Florence Nansumbi is a Sustainability and Environmental Scientist with over 10 years of professional experience in freshwater ecosystem assessment, water quality monitoring, aquatic ecological research, and environmental compliance. She has extensive experience developing ecosystem integrity indicators, assessing stream ecosystem functioning, and translating ecological evidence into environmental management and monitoring frameworks in both African and European contexts. She holds a PhD in Natural Resources and Life Sciences from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), a Master of Science in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management from Vrije Universiteit Brussels, U-Antwerp & U-Ghent, and a Bachelor of Science in Conservation Forestry and Products Technology from Makerere University.
As a full-time environmental researcher and practitioner over the last decade, Dr. Nansumbi has led sustainability initiatives funded by UNDP, the Toyota Foundation, and the Government of Japan, managed environmental compliance for major infrastructure projects, and conducted interdisciplinary research on climate resilience and ecosystem health. Her work involves developing sustainability frameworks, analysing environmental datasets using GIS, R, and Python, and collaborating with international stakeholders to support evidence-based environmental management and SDG implementation.
